BIO

Goksu Avdan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at Missouri Western State University (MWSU). He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Science with a specialization in Industrial and Quality Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He also earned his M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and his B.S. in Industrial Engineering through a dual diploma program between SIUE and Istanbul Technical University.

His research focuses on artificial intelligence, biomechanics, human factors and ergonomics, robotics, wearable sensing, biomedical signal processing, and time-series analysis, with applications in healthcare and manufacturing systems. His current research vision centers on cost-effective, portable, and user-centered technologies that improve human safety, performance, accessibility, productivity, and quality of life. His research interests include real-time ergonomic intelligence for human-robot collaboration, soft exoskeleton technologies for healthcare and workplace safety, and human-centered digital twins for smart and collaborative manufacturing.

His scholarly work includes peer-reviewed journal publications, conference proceedings, and conference presentations in areas related to AI, biomechanics, ergonomics, healthcare systems, manufacturing, and human-centered technologies. He has also served as a reviewer for reputable journals, including Artificial Intelligence Review, Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, Neural Computing and Applications, IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Heliyon, Soft Computing, and the Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology.

In addition to his research, Dr. Avdan is actively involved in engineering education, undergraduate mentoring, curriculum development, and ABET accreditation efforts. His teaching includes courses in engineering materials, dynamics, thermodynamics, computer-integrated manufacturing, CNC machining, manufacturing methods, programmable logic controllers, engineering documentation, construction estimating, independent research, and internship supervision. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers student club at MWSU.

He is an active member of several professional organizations, including IISE, IEEE, EMBS, INFORMS, and ASQ. His recognitions include the IEEE BHI 2023 NSF Student Travel Award, Research Grants for Graduate Students from SIUE, Research Grants for Doctoral Students from SIUE, the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award at the doctoral level, and the Alpha Chi Compass Award for Most Influential Professor at Missouri Western State University.
